How to Start/Stop Background Intelligent Transfer Service

Service name: BITS

Display name: Background Intelligent Transfer


Transfers files in the background using idle network bandwidth. If the service is disabled, then any applications that depend on BITS,
such as Windows Update or MSN Explorer, will be unable to automatically download programs and other information.

Path to executable:

C:\Windows\System32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs


This method shows you how to Start/Stop Background Intelligent Transfer Service from starting with the operating system using System Configuration

Please perform the following steps:

Please go to Start and click on the Search programs and files

Type msconfig and press Enter

In System Configuration please go to Services tab and locate Background Intelligent Transfer Service
Uncheck the box to prevent this service to start and then press OK to finish

Any change make in System Configuration will be apply after restart
